Its been an eventful bit of the trip, which is why the updates have dried up. But I’l try and pick off where we left, and try to remember the main events.
Glencoe was a tough one for Ben. He had a massive bonk about 10miles from the rest stop, and fortunately rolled downhill to the support van. Arrived at the support van shattered, but picked up a little with a massage and loads of support messages. Fortunately the weather was kind, and we continued into the highlands. After Loch Lomand (where Will and Ben managed to take some bloke on the road) we had a couple of worries, with flat tyres on the van (making 3 in total for the trip!), fixed by Ben Allen.
Last night was a tough one, Bens getting really tired now, and it shows most as the sun goes down. He had his sleep at 4am, as he was starting to fall asleep on the bike. Tony has some brilliant stories of Ben out on the bike. He said at one point he told Tony to go ahead, because he was slowing us all down. Tony persuaded him he didn’t want to ride on my own, and we had all sort of come to see him anyway, so maybe we could all ride together for a bit? He normally picks up in the morning.
Ben has some serious concerns about his legs today, which is why we managed to get a physio session for him After coming in from the Lake district to Lancaster he
Scotland had some amazing scenery, but we were all pretty ecstatic leaving it in Gretna Green, for the home country! It seems like were eating up the miles at the moment, and everyone is getting ready for a big night tonight, going down through the midlands, wales and into tomorrow crossing the River Severn back to the WestCountry!
The team are all coping with lack of sleep in different ways. Personally, I cant concentrate, which is probably why this message is a bit disjoint. But some of us (lie Ben Allen) seem to be able to go on only 2hrs a day, and refuse to go to even when ordered.
Keep sending the messages, its great being able to tell him when we stop that theres 80 new messages on the site, it really keeps him going.
It has clearly been a difficult time, but you’re nearly on the home straight, albeit it a few miles. Stick at it guys, you’re all doing fantastically well.
Saw you at the start on Saturday, as I was with some friends about to climb the Land’s End cliff face. I’ve set myself a challenge with another group of friends to do the LEJO next year in five days,….. we are but girlies riding our Raleigh Choppers in comparison to what you have already achieved (wigan).
I ran in the Birmingham to London Grand Union Canal Race in 2009 which was 145 miles in under 40 hours so I appreciate how hard it can be but just remember the old cliche “Pain is temporary, a World Record is FOREVER”
Battle on, the worst is over.

Keep it going, keep positive and visualize succes. You can do it.
So glad to read Day 5 Blog. We are all hooked and got a bit worried with no morning update. However we could see the little red dot purring on (or is that powering on..) – anyway best with a West Country accent. See you had a following wind today, and you should miss most of our rain tonight and tomorrow. See if you can get Cameron to the finish – half the press corps is in Cornwall right now, and they have had the baby, so You Are Next! good luck
Fantastic progress so far, you make me ashamed at staying in today to avoid a drop of rain. Going for a century tomorrow, and still a third of your milage! Keep up the great work.
Keep it going Ben, you are doing absolutely brilliant, this is one heck of a challenge and we wish you well and hope you smash the record. Good Luck and keep those wheels turning & burning. We’ll look out for you near Cullompton!
Ben…. you contine to inspire us all! So proud of you. I know your legs, mind, lungs etc are exhausted but you’re so close now. Just keep going and know that we are all behind you! xxx
Ah yay the posts are back I was getting worried for a minute!!
Like everyone else I’m getting a bit hooked. Currently meant to be writing an essay on exercise motivation and SDT but thought I would watch it in action instead (that’s you Benji by the way!)
If you could just keep riding past the record (not literally into the sea) we’ll all have something to do with our lives!
Wahoo for the Rockett… big cup of tea in chips and ham for your return!! And remember- you make the perfect wife!!
Massive bonk? Take this you mean fell off his bike! (Otherwise stop wasting time and get cycling). Come on Ben … you to can be awesome!!! (Even though I think you are already). x
Come on Rockett man!! Never has one man clicked refresh on a google map to watch a red dot move so much! It’s driving Amy mad! Keep those legs turning!
Fantastic, he’s doing so well and we can’t wait to have him back in the south west!
Good luck with this last bit – nearly there!
