June 22nd-24th will see Bath hosting its first cycling festival as the BikeBath weekend finally gets underway. The Friday evening kicks the weekend off with talks from myself, where I’ll be discussing the training involved for my Land’s End – John o’Groats – Land’s End record breaking ride; Robert Penn (author and presenter of “It’s all about the bike“); and the legendary Graeme Obree (World hour record and world champion). It will also be a great chance to hear about Graeme’s upcoming attempt at the land speed record. For those of you with more itchy feet who wish to get out on your bike…
…then there is a great selection of routes (30, 60 and 100 miles) on both Saturday (South of Bath) and Sunday (North of Bath) that will take riders through some of the most beautiful scenery across the region. Will you be keen enough to tackle both of the 100 mile rides? With the routes designed by Andy Cook you can be sure of a well planned and exciting route that will prepare your appetite to indulge some of the great local restaurants or to sample Rob Clayton’s seasonal menu that will be perfect for fuelling the challenging miles in the saddle. I may be biased towards Bath after seven years of living and training there, but this is going to be a perfect weekend for fun, challenge and exploring the best of Bath. (Bring your rain jacket just in case!).
Hey! I rode my first 100 miles on the Saturday sportive at Bike Bath. I spent two months trying to get ready for it and I was riding further and further each week. It was so tough, but it was a great day. The route was really clear and the food stations were perfect. In hindsight I spent too long at them, but at the time I needed to rest. So happy that I made it round, although taking on another 100 miles on Sunday would have been too much for me. Maybe next year. Thanks for your talk on the Friday. I kept hearing it in my head during the climb up Cheddar Gorge.
